Stratham is a town located in the Southeastern corner of New Hampshire in the Seacoast region of the state. It is situated in the Eastern portion of Rockingham County and encompasses a total area of 15.5 square miles, only .4 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Stratham was home to 7,255 people.

The area that now comprises Stratham was settled in 1631 and first referred to as Winnicutt by the Pennacook Indians who lived there. In 1716, it became the sixth town in New Hampshire to become incorporated, getting its name from a friend of Governor Samuel Shute, who served as the Baron Howland of Streatham.

There are only .4 square miles of water in Stratham, accounting for just over 2 percent of the town?s total area. The town includes parts of the Squamscott River and the Piscataqua River, and its highest point lies at Stratham Hill, where elevation reaches 290 feet about sea level. Stratham’s main thoroughfares include New Hampshire Route 33, New Hampshire Route 108 and New Hampshire Route 111.

The town of Stratham is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. It boasts a full-time police department, a volunteer fire department and volunteer emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include Timberland, Shaw’s Supermarket, Lindt Sprugli Inc., Market Basket, Vitronics Soltec, HD Smith, Bell & Flynn, Staples and Seacoast Imported Auto. Children in the area attend kindergarten through fifth grade at Stratham Memorial School. For grades sixth through eight, the attend Cooperative Middle School, and for grades nine through 12, they attend Exeter High School.

For recreation and entertainment, Stratham residents can enjoy the town’s municipal parks, golf courses, tennis courts, museums, performing arts facilities, youth sports leagues and organizations, fishing and hunting areas, boating marinas, snowmobile trails, bicycle trails and cross country skiing areas. The town also hosts an annual fair, called the Stratham Fair, at Stratham Hill Park.
