Middleton is a town located in Southeastern New Hampshire in the Lakes region of the state. It is situated in the Northern part of Strafford County and encompasses a total area of 18.5 square miles, .4 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Middleton was home to 1,783 residents.

The town was first granted by the Masonian Proprietors in 1749, gleaning its name from Sir Charles Middleton, a baron in England. After the Revolutionary War, the area was settled by families from the Lee and Rochester areas. Middleton was officially incorporated in 1778 and originally include the area now known as Brookfield. It was separated and incorporated as its own town in 1794.
