Madison is a town located in Easter New Hampshire in the Lakes region of the state. It is situated in the Central part of Carroll County and encompasses a total area of 40.9 square miles, 2.4 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Madison was home to 2,502 people.

Madison is made up of former portions of Eaton and Albany. It was first granted as a place for surviving soldiers of the French and Indian war and was incorporated as a town in 1852. The town’s name came from Madison, in honor of James Madison, former president of the Unites States.

More than 5 percent of Madison’s total area is made up of water. The town includes Forrest Brook, Silver Lake and Pequawket Brook. Its highest point lie at Lyman Mountain, where elevation reaches 1,558 feet above sea level. Madison is also home to a number of notable sites, including: the Madison Boulder, the largest glacial erratic in all of New England; Purity Spring Resort; King Pine Ski Area; Joy Farm; and the Silver Lake Railroad.

The town of Madison is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. It boasts a full-time police department, a volunteer fire department and volunteer emergency services. Top employers in the area include Purity Springs Resort, Madison Lumber Mill, Chick Industrial Packaging, MacLean Precision Machine Company, SOLO Wilderness Medical School Inc., Silver Lake Hardware, Jog-a-Lite, F.W. Webb and Richardson Manufacturing.

Children in the area attend Madison Elementary School for grades kindergarten through sixth. For grades seven through 12, they attend School Administrative Unit #13 in the nearby town of Conway. For recreation and entertainment, residents can take advantage of the town?s municipal parks, youth sports leagues and organizations, fishing and hunting areas, boating marinas, snowmobile trails, cross country skiing and local beaches.
