Hudson is a town located in Southern New Hampshire in the Merrimack Valley region of the state. It is situated in the Southeastern part of Hillsborough County and encompasses a total area of 29.12 square miles, .8 of which is water. As of the 2010 United States Census, Hudson was home to 24,467 people.
The land that comprises Hudson was originally a part of the Dunstable Land Grant, which now makes up Nashua, New Hampshire and Dunstable and Pepperell, Massachusetts. Once the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border disputes were settled, the land was split, with the New Hampshire side taking on the name “New Nottingham.” It was incorporated in 1673 and, in 1830, the name was officially changed to Hudson, most likely honoring early explorer Henry Hudson.
Just under 5 percent of Hudsod’s total area is made up of water. The town is home to part of the Merrimack River and lies completely within its watershed. Its highest point lies at Bush Hill, where elevation reaches 515 feet above sea level. The town is served by New Hampshire Routes 3A, 111 and 102, and its neighboring towns include Litchfield, Londonderry, Merrimack, Nashua, Windham, Pelham and Tyngsborough, Massachusetts.
Hudson is governed by an elected Board of Selectmen. The town boasts a full-time police department, a municipal fire department and municipal emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include BAE Systems, Hudson School District, APW Enclosures, Presstek, The Telegraph, Vectron Technologies, Hudson Mills and Noram International. Chilren in the area attend schools in the Hudson School District, which includes four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
Hudson is home to the Hills Memorial Library, two public golf courses and the Hudson Speedway, a quarter-mile paved racetrack. The town also boasts its own recreation department which hosts various sports leagues, fitness classes, camps and more.
