Hooksett is a town located in central New Hampshire in the Merrimack Valley region of the state. It is situated in Southern Merrimack County and encompasses a total area of 37.5 square miles, all but 1 of which is land. As of the 2010 United States Census, Hooksett was home to 13,451 residents.

The land that now comprises Hooksett was first known by the name of Chester Woods and then, later on, Rowe’s Corner. Finally, it took on the name Hooksett, either because of its hook-shaped island located in the Merrimack River or because many fishermen called the area ?Hookline Falls.” The town was officially incorporated in 1822.

Nearly 8 percent of Hooksett’s total area is made up of water. The town is home to the Merrimack River and parts of the White Mountains, and it lies fully within the Merrimack watershed. Its highest point is located at Quimby Mountain, where elevation reaches 902 feet above sea level. Hooksett is served by Interstate 93 and is home to Southern New Hampshire University.

Hooksett is governed by an elected Town Council. It boasts a full-time police department, a municipal fire department and municipal and private emergency medical services. Top employers in the area include Southern New Hampshire University, GE Aviation, United Healthcare, Cigna Health Care, Shaw’s Supermarket, Target, C B Sullivan Co. Inc., Cummings Printing, Merchants Automotive Group and Pro Con Inc.

Children in the area attend schools in the Hooksett School District for grades kindergarten through eighth. For grades nine through 12, they are tuitioned to School Administrative Unit #15 in the nearby town of Manchester. For recreation and entertainment, Hooksett residents can take advantage of the town’s municipal parks, tennis courts, ice skating rink, movie theaters, youth organizations, youth sports leagues, campgrounds, fishing and hunting areas, boating marinas, snowmobile and bicycle trails, cross country skiing and local beach and waterfront areas.
