Province Lake is a body of water located in Eastern New Hampshire in the Lakes Region of the state. It is situated in Carroll County, as well as part of York County in Maine, and it can be seen in the towns of Effingham, Wakefield and Parsonsfield. Altogether, the lake boasts a total surface area of 967 acres. Its maximum depth is 17 feet, though on average, depth is about 9 feet. It sits at an elevation of 480 feet above sea level.
The lake is a popular nesting area for birds like the loon, the great blue heron and the merganser. It is also a popular fishing spot because of the wide variety of warm water fish that live there. According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Province Lake is home to small mouth bass, large mouth bass, yellow perch, chain pickerel, hornet pout and sunfish. The lake is accessible to the public via a ramp at its southernmost tip.
The lake itself is a prime location for boating, swimming, kayaking, water skiing and other water-related sports. There is also a campground and country club on site, and the surrounding towns offer a wide variety of amenities and activities, including libraries, parks, golf courses, recreational facilities, shopping, dining and a variety of community events.
